Winix PlasmaWave 5300 Review

single_review

According to the EPA indoor air pollution is at all time highs. This is causing a variety of different health problems such headaches, allergies, nausea and other more debilitating conditions. Not only this; but clean air in a home makes for a much more pleasant living environment. Buying an air purifier is the sensible solution to this problem, however finding one which can handle larger rooms can be a problem.

One of the best air purifiers for handling large spaced rooms is the Winix PlasmaWave 5300 Air Cleaner. In this review I’ll show why I believe this is one of the best models available if you need to clean a lot of air. And I’ll also suggest a couple of things that could do with improvement.

The Winix PlasmaWaves defining feature is the amount of air it can move. It completely removes any indoor smoke, animal hair or any other airborne particles from even large rooms. This really is one hard working air purifier. The manufacturers claim that it removes 99.97 of airborne particles and I would have to say that does seem to be the case. It uses a three stage cleaning system with the HEPA filter removing the air particles. A carbon pre filter to collect up the odors and animal hair and the like. And a plasma generator to destroy the air particles at a molecular level.

Another nice functionality of this air purifier is the in built air quality sensor which automatically adjusts the amount of air that the air purifier needs to move. As I’ve already noted this is a great machine for large spaces. The CADR rating certifies it for rooms up to 350 square feet so it can cover a lot of space. A lot of air purifiers do the job in smaller sized homes but they don’t seem to be designed for modern houses. If you have got a lot of space in your house I would take a look at the Winix PlasmaWave.

It’s a really quiet on the low to medium settings. Even on a medium setting it seems to move a lot more air than other similarly priced air purifier’s move on their high settings. I would say though that the turbo setting is quite noisy. It’s recommended that you don’t stay in the room when the turbo setting is on, and I think that this is good advice. The turbo setting isn’t a feature you will probably need on a regular basis anyway.

It is designed for use when you have been doing a lot of cooking or perhaps after a party when there have been a lot of smokers in the room. One other little complaint I have with this air purifier is that the Plasmacluster feature cannot be turned off. When this is on you can hear a faint clicking sound if the fan is on low speeds and you are standing or sitting close to the air purifier.

Other than that though this is a really nice looking air purifier that moves an amazing amount of air for what is a very reasonable price.
